Hello,

Looking at purchasing a Souris River canoe and thinking about woven blue or blue Le Tigre. The only photos I have found on their site and the internet are with black aluminum trim.

Does anyone have a photo they could post of a blue canoe with clear or bronze aluminum trim?

Thank you.

While I can't help with your photo request, I will comment that our Old Town Columbia had black aluminum trim. While the canoe was a great boat and probably the most hydrodynamic of the five tandems we've owned through the years, we'll not own another boat with black trim--it gets crazy hot in some weather/sun conditions.

Appreciate the reply. Had not considered black alumium building up more heat. My previous Minnesota ll and Spirit ll both had clear aluminum trim. I wonder of the clear aluminum is more reflective of the sun than the black trim. Good point to consider. Thank you. -R

I don't dispute TrailZen's experience at all, but have not personally found my black aluminum trim to be a big deal. It was fairly hot on my 10 day BWCA trip last June/July and a several other June/July/August trips over the past 7 years. Maybe it wasn't as hot and sunny on my trips, or maybe I just didn't notice. I have an SRQ le tigre red with black trim. I think the blue is fairly new, so may not be a lot of photos out there yet.

Ahhh, I should have mentioned that I live in the southeast and that my 'hot gunwales' issues have primarily been on NC/SC lakes when ambient temps were 80*F or above and it was very sunny. Like jaywalker, the black trim wasn't an issue while tripping in the BWCA/Q. Sorry for any confusion I generated!

Here's a couple pics with new blue SRs. Sorry, but our red SRQ is the star of the show in these pics. Wife picked up last summer when i was in the BW.

First pic is better - it looks like this blue canoe has the non-painted aluminum trim.

A few things I learned in buying my new SR last year (I also have a 20+ year old SRQ that has served us well):

1 - Get your order in early. I'm not sure how the pandemic demand will be this year but SR only makes ~500 canoes a year. They sell out every year. I wanted to get one in 2020 but was late in ordering. Start talking with them now. Wayne is great to deal with. A no BS guy, tells it like it is. Very nice.

2 - Blue is a newer color to them and they don't sell many of them.

3 - LeTigre is very nice. Glad we got our red Q17 in LeTigre - IMHO it's worth the extra $.

You are spot on with insightful purchasing recommendations. Thank you.
Mine and a friend's canoe have already been ordered. Both in woven colour for sure maybe Le Tigre. Your photos help.
Thank you for taking the time to reply.

Hi, can you tell me where you ordered from?
My boyfriend likes canoes, he's been on them a couple of times and I'm looking for somewhere to order something cool for him. But I don't know much about it myself.
I would like to find purple or magenta, those are his favorite shades. I would appreciate it.

Here is a link to Souris River Canoes. Well built, and great stability. They do not offer the colors that you are looking for, but it is a starting point!

Here is the email address for Wayne, the sales manager at Souris River.

A friend of our had a Wilderness 18 years ago that was a burgundy colour. It can't hurt to ask about that colour.

Researching and purchasing a canoe is one of the great joys of life!
