That picture is a good argument for carrying your smartphone with you at all times even though I hate the evil device.
Saw one drift through the headlights once on the way to early morning deer hunting. The wingspan was impressive.

I used to see them pretty regularly in Green Bay back in the 70s.
The best winter irruption I have seen was just a few years ago. There was a snowy on the coast of GEORGIA. Little Saint Simons Island. It spent a good part of the winter at the beach. It was often seen roasting on the roof of a beach-front house, so a local naturalist went to check it out. Pellets were collected from the rain gutters of the house and sent off to someone good at identifying bone fragments. Turns out the owl was eating sanderlings and sandpipers off the beach.

Snowy owls are awesome! I usually see 2 or 3 a winter in south central MN but have yet to see one this winter. When I see them it's usually much less dramatic as the OP since I usually see them sitting on top of a telephone post.
