Yes, sometimes it is!

Sure is.

Here I had about 90 seconds warning of a strong storm hitting me at the portage into Hudson. Got my mini-tarp up and a pad, and took shelter just in time with my dog from the down pour, wind, and lightning.

After last summer, hoping it's a frequent part of it! Here's a photo from wetter times....

Get yourself one of Dan's CCS Tundra tarps and it sure makes the experience in camp a whole lot more tolerable; many may even say enjoyable. Being prepared and having the right equipment makes all the difference in the world.

Luna is not a happy camper in rain. She loves to swim however. This is Agnes Lake in Quetico 2013.

Love the fire pit of that site on Glacier. Available tent pads; not so much.

Niether rain, nor wind, nor sun shall keep this old camper from packing along his tarp. Definitely an essential item in my pack.

Only one nice tent site as we recall, and squirrels woke us early by tossing pine cones onto the tent, but a wonderful fire pit!

We've had days when our rain fly looked like this--putting a cook pot in the right place really reduces time spent filtering water!

On a mid September trip to Slim Lake we had a lot of low 50s and rain and our tarp provided a comfy place to sit and chat, drink coffee, snack, cook meals and play cribbage. A tarp had never been part of our outfit until a few years prior to this trip but now it is an indispensable piece of gear.

Seagull last fall, during a break in the rain long enough for a decent picture (self-draining when enough water accumulates on it):

Lake Three on my first visit 2014 this is right after a very strong thunder storm.
