Are there any quality extra large canoe packs? I have a Granite Gear 7400 and is a little too small. Does anyone know of a pack with over 8000 cubic inches?

The only one that I know of is the Kondos Outfitter 98 (aka Expedition). Kondos claims a volume of 8200 cu. in. when it is extended.

The Expeditions are huge! Don't know if I would want anything bigger.

Need to compare the same specifications to each other.
Kondos Outfitter 98 is 26x28x8.25=6006 cubic inches.
Granite Gear Superior One is 20x25x11=5500 cubic inches.
CCS Guide is 26x19x12=5928 cubic inches.

CCS understates the volume of the actual measurements, Kondos and Granite Gear list stuffed volume probably total with extensions which is a different way to figure the volume (GG does list both volumes).

All the above are too big for me. I'd rather just trim size and weight of my rear.

What are you stuffing into that where it's still too small?

Unless you're packing a bunch of lightweight stuff....I'd think only a few NFL players would be carrying a full pack of that size any real distance.

For what it's worth, I have a CCS Guide (listed at 97 liters/5928 cu in) and a Seal Line ProPack 120 (listed at 120 liters/7322 cu in). The Guide holds more (additional 70 meter climbing rope) without using the "wings" for additional volume. Thus I guess volume based on dimensions/advertisement among manufacturers is somewhat fluid.

Maybe take a longer trip?

Mike, you realize that the canoe doesn't go inside the pack right?

GG Superior full size is 7400. I was never able to fill it to the full capacity - and still I've never seen any one carrying anything bigger than my pack. Anything even close to that. It could be a real challenge to manage a pack extending half a canoe length behind one's back.

C'mon. He's looking for something bigger than a Superior. What you don't need is irrelevant. On a 6 week trip in northern Canada, my partner had a Superior, a 120 liter Seal Line Pro Pack, and another smaller pack, all full (and carried over many portages). I had different, but similar packs. The other boat had 5 CCS Guides. You use what's needed.

So what's the point - that two big packs can carry more stuff than one? I agree. And there's a reason people rather carry 2 big packs than 1 huge one.

The Kondos #4 is a beast. The advertised 5400 cu. in. seems like an underestimate in my unscientific opinion. I can't give you a measurement but maybe someone on here can second that. It can be overstuffed to a perfect sphere but still carries fine (with the optional hip belt, load lifters) loaded with my cousin's very bulky but relatively lightweight gear. A less expensive option, too.

If you need all the volume, then you need to consider the portages. Do I portage with 2 big packs, one on top of the other, or 1 huge pack? Or do I make a 4th portage trip for the additional big pack? If you can carry the huge pack (which obviously depends on how much stuff you have and how you pack it), then that provides a quicker and more efficient portage. A manageable huge pack is easier to deal with than two smaller packs on each portage. Because we had 7 weeks of food and additional stuff for remote travel (bigger med kits, patch kits, firearm, expedition tents, spray decks, small sails), even with our big packs we were adding day packs, etc. on top. None of our packs individually were unmanageable, but we had the biggest packs on the market because we needed the volume.
