I've drawn a permit for Lizz (EP 47) and will be going in to Caribou and Horseshoe (and maybe beyond). I'm a fly fisherman and will be taking an 8 wt. rod for sure since I've read that Caribou has some good smallmouth fishing. I've also noted that Horseshoe discharges into the Brule River and was interested to know if anyone has any experience (and success) fishing for Brook Trout there. If so, I might take along a light trout rod.

Lizz Lake hasn’t been stocked with trout in 10 years.

As far as the Brule River goes, there are very few brook trout in there. You’re much more likely to catch bass, pike, and perch out of there.

Brule isn't a great trout stream, some of the smaller feeder streams to the Brule have some brookies in them.
