Never had one in camp. Chased one out of the garden a couple years back. Maybe 15 years ago, had one with cubs cross my path while out brookie fishing. That one I let look at me, sniff a bunch and wander off on it's own. Didn't think being aggressive was the right course of action with the cubs. Both were black bears.
Both of those Grizz videos, can't say I would have been as calm as the two gents in the video.

I know I can't do it and I wouldn't do it, but damn it, there's a part of me that would want to cuddle a bear that came so close. They're so fluffy I can't stand it!*

smoke: "It is a young curious bear. It is far different situation if the bear was an adult preditor. "
It was always the adolescent brown bears that worried me the most when I lived in Alaska because they were less predictable and tended to be feeling their oats, not unlike human teenagers sometimes. When the brown bears are congregating on salmon streams in the summer their focus is on eating as many salmon as they can to prepare for winter. I have literally seen some with bellies that drag on the ground from gorging on so many fish. As long as you give them space they're just focused on eating fish and people do not fall on the screen as food. But it is a little nerve-racking when they get close to you on a river.
