Looking to get an Ursack XL and wondering if it’s worth the extra money to get the “Kodiak/Almighty “ or stick with the regular. Thanks.

I haven’t had problems with the regular Ursacks and small animals in the BW. We even once had a squirrel sit on our first generation Ursack and not be able to figure out how to get into it. I am thinking of getting an almighty for camping in areas with raccoons, such as out here in California.

The Allmitey/Kodiak/Grizzly feature protection from all creatures but differ in volume. The Major XL is mostly protection from bears.
Bought my 2 Ursack's before the distinction/different versions, but did buy them for mostly small critter protection and have spent some time watching voles/chipmunks/mice/squirrels up in size to large racoons fail to bite thru or into my bags.

I also bought mine before the different versions and have not had trouble with small critters. As far as I'm aware none have even tried to get in. I've seen chipmunks run right by the Ursack. I think the small critter version was mostly a response to thru-hiker problems at trail shelters.

I do use the OPsacks and my food is low-odor dehydrated meals, etc. I do make a serious effort to keep food smells off the Ursack.

I've never had any problems with the regular version.

I was where you are last year when I started planning my 2022 trip. Did my research and settled on going all in on the Kodiak. This June will be my first time using it but like Boonie, I will be using Opsacks to keep odors to a minimum.

I like the AllMitey's because they keep the little critters out as well. My tripping days are most likely over due to health reasons. I have two AllMitey's that are like new that have been on two trips if you or anyone is interested. Mine are the original color and they do have the velcro enclosure. PM me.
