From my email:
"To: All Who Hear the Echo of the Northwood’s Wind, This Opportunity is for You
From: Blayne Hall - Co-owner of Williams and Hall
Not long ago, my wife and I boarded a full bus and a young man stood and kindly offered us his seat. When we got off the bus, I told Charlene that we must be getting old to have that nice guy offer us his seat. She said, “Isn’t it weird being the same age as old people?”
As we approach our 30th summer canoe season on Moose Lake, we have decided it is retirement time for us. Williams and Hall is for sale.
Every season, guests pull me aside to say - When you decide to offer the business for sale, please let me know. So, this is us telling our friends that we will be listing our business for sale. Prior to listing the property with an agent, we are first extending the offer to friends of our business.
Williams and Hall has provided our family with a unique, exciting, and fulfilling life among the pines. We are at the top of our game at the top of the industry.
We look forward to helping the next generation of ownership settle in and take the business to the next level. If you have a sincere interest in living on the shores of Moose Lake while running the best canoe-outfitting business in the Northwoods, contact me at blayne@williamsandhall.com. We can discuss the opportunity in greater detail.
We feel extremely blessed to have been able to live and work here all these years, but the time to make a change is here. If you have ever thought about making your living in the Northwoods, this is your opportunity.
And rest assured, Charlene, Dave, our crew and I will continue to offer the same great service as we go forward with this sale process. Your reservation is safe with us.
All the best,
Blayne Hall"

Saw this too. I'm kind of bummed because I've come to know and love the W&H crew over the last few years. But, everyone gets to a point in their life where they just want to relax, and I can't say for sure but I think the W&H owners and longtime crew like Dave have earned it. I hope whoever buys the place does it justice.

I agree on all points.

May all go well for all.
I taught Dave how to lift a canoe, in 1980.... still, he knows more about fishing than I ever will. (and even did back in 1980)
Dave is a North Woods legend now.
We paddled the length of Sturgeon Lake in Quetico together, in white caps, on October 26, 2000.

I worked for Tom and Woods for a few years before Williams and Hall took over. Worked for them for a while. Great people and Blayne has really improved the place with his passion for all things wood working. Glad they are setting the course for retirement. Only disappointment is now I will have have to pay for tows.

Dave is phenomenal. I remember one time when, at 6 am, he was giving me a tow up to Prairie Portage. Moose was as flat as can be, and it was just us two skimming along. At one point a bald eagle came swooping down and paralleled us for a bit, and then a couple moments later a walleye, that was sunning itself on the morning rays just below the surface, was startled by the boat and nearly landed itself in the boat. After Dave unloaded me at Prairie, he said that in all the years of towing he had never seen anything like that. I made sure to tip him well.

Stumpy: "Before Williams & Hall it was Tom & Woods.
Before that it was Don Beland's.
Don passed away last October."
I remember when it was Tom & Woods and have a patch from them sitting around somewhere. I remember Don too, when I went up he was working out of North Country Lodge with his guide service. Lots of good memories!

What a class act the entire operation was and is.
Dave is calm, smart and extremely welcoming each and every time I have been there, which is a whole lot of times. Blayne is outgoing, a great and funny guy that is willing to do whatever it takes to keep the customers happy.
I hope “Hall and Oates” sells quickly for their sake. But selfishly I hope no buyer materializes for another decade or two!
