what temp top quilt and under quilt do you guys go with in your hammock setup? I'm trying to find what combo would be best for the shoulder seasons but also into late june. Would 20 degree top quilt and 20 degree under quilt be too warm in june? I am going to go with a zippered footbox.

I use a Warbonnet down 20*top quilt for my May and September trips and it has been good for me. I have the snap open foot box to regulate temp if it’s warmer. My under is a synthetic and I’m pretty sure it also 20*.You can always remove it in warmer weather.

I use a 20* top and bottom quilt from the end of April through the end of October. I've been using this setup for the last 12 years and it's served me well.
My 20* degree quilts were made by Hammock Gear and I have the sewn foot box. I went with a 2 oz overstuff in both quilts. Not sure I needed it, but have not been unhappy with having it.
For warmer weather I still use the 20* degree under quilt (because it's the only under quilt I own :) For summer temperatures I sometimes will take a 40* Zpacks bag that I use as a top quilt to save some weight, but this is not warm enough for much of the shoulder seasons.
How warm/cold you sleep matters too. I am not a large person and tend to sleep a little on the chilly side, but this setup has still worked well for me. My wife, on the other hand, gets colder than I do and uses quilts that are rated 20* colder than mine.

Everyone's different, but for me, probably. If the nights are in the mid-50s or higher, I would be too hot to sleep with 20 degree gear.

I have a 15° top quilt and I stack my DIY Costco UQ (prolly 40°) with a 20° synthetic for spring/fall. That set up would be too warm for me in the summer. That's when I use a my DIY Costco TQ and UQ (prolly 40°) each.
The nice thing though about TQ and UQ is that you can vent. I'd rather have more and vent than not and be cold. And if you HAD to choose only one to be a 20°, then always put more under you than on top.

For 85% of the year a 20 degree bottom quilt is what you want. The bottom quilt is like the front brake on a bike/motorcycle, it's the one doing the STRONG majority of the work. Top quilt temp is widely up to you. If it's too warm, omit the top quilt completely, and/or just use a light jacket as a blanket.
