I just finished reading the lake trout article in the Spring 2022 Boundary Waters Journal "The Lake Trout One-Two Punch". The authors have the technique for trophy lake trout dialed-in, basically drifting over 30-60 feet of water in June jigging one-ounce lipless crankbaits or swimbaits. Most of my lake trout fishing has been the shallow water bite in mid-May. That's a lot of fun with a white tube jig, but I will make more of effort in June going forward.
Lots of good information and tips were provided in that article. It certainly will get many more folks out trolling and jigging for lake trout. Trout are active feeders and a variety of baits will work. Their baits are a bit rich for my wallet and the article seemed like a four-page advertisement.
