For those of you more "sciencey" than me, is there any known direct correlation between the first hatch of black flies and ice out? My assumption is that the answer involves several variables and isn't as simple as when the ice goes out. I assume temperature, standing water, and other factors play a part. But, in general, would one expect to see the first hatch a week after the ice goes out or to or longer?
I know that different bugs require different conditions in order to come out. I believe black flies require moving water, is that correct?

I did indeed rock down to Electric Avenue, but I did not take it higher. I regret that.
I'm unsure...I have found a direct correlation of the hatch with the timing of my first trip however. This year it's the weekend after opener...so expect them to be thick that weekend.
