I know this is a food item but wondered if groups take these bags of salad with the dressing and crouton inside to mix up and make at the campsites for dinner? I wonder how long they last. Obviously, it would need to be eaten early in the trip (night 1,2 and maybe 3?) but does it hold up?
Also, the cooler the trip the better they would last. July and Aug trips, maybe night 1 and May and June, a little longer.

It would be good to have some fresh Cesear salad out there that is easy to throw together.

Just wondering if anyone has actually tried it.
thanks

We like to make fish tacos the first night in camp, the second night at the latest. We will bring a bag of shredded lettuce (and all the other fixings) to put on the tacos, but pretty much have to eat it the first day or two before it starts turning brown.

I think you would be better off bringing a head or two of romaine or a head of lettuce instead of the processed stuff. The processed stuff will degrade very quickly.

I have taken the bagged salads and like others it is good the first night, okay the second. I think all the bruising of being in a pack does more than temp but would never try a second day with temps above 70.
A head of romaine makes much more sense.

Bring ‘em every year. They are fine for the first 2-3 nights. The kind with more cabbage/veggies and minimal leaf lettuce last longer. Keep them out of the sunlight until you use them.

Generally speaking bag lettuce lasts longer. They remove O2 and CO2, both of which contribute to it going bad.

It is still important to refrigerate MAP produce.

+1 - the bagged salad which is mostly cabbage lasts longer than leaf lettuce. I have used it for a number of years.

When in larger groups we bring romaine. We keep it whole to keep it fresher longer. I also bring whole cabbage. Can't go wrong there it lasts a long time. We tend to eat the fresh food quickly and access how long it will be edible.
