Well, it was nearly a year from when I got my Superior Gear hammock to when I actually got use it on a trip. I got back yesterday from Wine Lake where I was a tree-dweller for the first time. What an excellent experience!! On two of the nights there was no need for a bug net and no need for a tarp, so I slept wrapped up in down but a clear view up to the sky. I was toasty warm all night and really didn't feel any need to try side-sleeping, even though I do that at home quite a bit. I was very happy with not having to make any underquilt adjustments and it was very easy to hang. I bought a trap snakeskin and a hammock snakeskin earlier this year and found both additions to be very worthwhile.

It was soooo nice to able to just swing my legs off and be sitting up off the ground. There'll be no more rolling over on my knees on the cold ground. I am a hammck convert!

Hello Jon, what Superior hammock set up did you get? Length of hammock? Tarp?
been kicking around the idea of purchasing this hammock.

I got the 11-foot, 30-degree Elite hammock with the standard Superior buckle suspension, along with the zip-in bug net and a Superior Gear 11' tarp. I actually ordered the standard (i.e., not "Elite" fabric and 40-45 degree sewn-in underquilt, but through a series of mix-ups ended up with the one I got). I'm only 5'9" (used to be taller) and the length was fine for me, but I wouldn't be opposed to a 12' hammock if they made one (maybe the do now).

I never hammocked before but I didn't struggle to get the right sag or hang angle. Those Shug videos were excellent information for a total rookie like me!

Thanks Jon for your info it always helps to get someone's advice. I to watch a lot of Shug's video's , like to get another persons perspective. I have the WB RR, Superfly and Thunder fly tarps, looking to a new hammock adventure.

If I were to make any chnage, it would be to get a tarp with doors and also a UQ protector (Superior makes one of those but calls it by a different name), but those are both "wants" rather than "needs".

Hammocks are a complete game-changer. I agree with your comment about side sleeping. I still do it in the hammock but not nearly as much as I do in my bed.

I do wonder if any stomach sleepers have made the adjustment to hammocks.

I primarily stomach sleep at home. But in a hammock I sleep great on either my back or my side. It's the reason I waited to try a hammock and I wish I hadn't.
