My group and I will be heading out soon to our EP (out of East Bearskin) next week. This question may have been discussed, but do we need to have a trout stamp, if we are not targeting trout?

If you are fishing on a designated trout lake you would need one.
Make sure you check out the limits and slot limits for the area you are fishing in. It’s getting more and more confusing as time goes on.

And just to clarify — “designated trout lake” is a specific thing, the list is mostly lakes that are stocked with rainbow, brook, brown, and splake. I’m 99% certain bearskin and the vast majority of lakes in the Bwca that hold lake trout are not “designated trout lakes.” For those lakes, you don’t need to a trout stamp to fish and you can even target LT but they must be released. Trout stamp in MN allows you to fish superior and designated trout lakes, and/or enables you to harvest trout from non-designated trout lakes.

And finally—- anglers 65+ do not need a trout stamp.
