When I look through my photos, I don't really have enough lake photos of the same lake, to play this game properly, so please forgive me, I'm going to play it slightly differently.

This post won't have any pictures. Just clues. But perhaps that will give someone a chance to win, who never has. I'm sorry, this is my first time winning, and I didn't realize I wasn't set up to contribute. I'll have to take better pictures next time.

So here we go...

You would never call Crooked Lake, "Lake Crooked", that would sound weird. "Lake Fall", lol, that's just not right. Conversely, you wouldn't call them One Lake, Two Lake, Three Lake, that would also be weird.

I often wonder why some are one way, and others are the other. There are a few, that I've heard both ways, like Lake Saganaga, or Saganaga Lake. But I don't think I've ever heard them say "Lake Mountain".

The vast majority of the lake names shown on the BWCA.com map, list "Lake" 2nd, like Fall Lake. Lake #80, is one of the few lakes, that are listed on the BWCA.com map, as "Lake _______", with "lake" listed first. For the purpose of this answer, I'm only going by how it's listed on the map.

This lake is in the BWCA.

I've never been on this lake, but from what I read, a campsite on the lake is questionable whether it still exists.

More clues to follow....

The following picture has nothing to do with "lake #80", it's just for fun.

I've pondered the same "Lake" ordering many times myself! I can dig it...

Lake Agnes

I think it's interesting. Lake Mille Lacs, Lake Superior, Lake Michigan, Lake of the Woods, etc.

Calling it Michigan Lake, wouldn't have the same majestic quality.

In the twin cities near Stillwater, there is Square Lake, and Lake Carnelian, right next to each other, yet a near by lake, they don't really put lake on either end.

Big Marine, is just "Big Marine". You never hear anyone say either Lake Big Marine or Big Marine Lake. It's just Big Marine.

I think Snowbank, and Basswood are kind of that way.

Snowbank Lake, Lake Snowbank, neither sounds right.

Universities are kind of that way.

Kansas is KU, yet Kentucky, is UK.

There are dozens of Long Lakes in MN, and every single one is Long Lake, and not one, is Lake Long.

I decided to go to the following list and look at lake names in Minnesota. While I'm not shocked there were (27) Fish Lakes, and nearly as many goose lakes (23), and the aforementioned Long Lake has (34), it surprised me the winner was Mud Lake at (35).

But what shocked me the most, was that paled in comparison to number lakes. While most of them don't repeat, I had no idea there were HUNDREDS of numbered lakes in Minnesota. I guess they ran out of girl friends to name them after.

It's also interesting, that when you're talking about where you're going, you often might leave out "Lake" in your answer, as in we're going to Sag, we're going to Seagul, Alpine, Basswood, Smoke, Burnt, but I don't think i've ever heard someone say, "we're going to Fall" by itself, it's always Fall Lake. Seems Moose is more often paired with Moose Lake. And some you would never say the Lake name with it, like Smoke. I don't hear people say they're going to Smoke Lake, "Smoke Weed" maybe.

Northwoodsman: "I'll take the second guess... Lake Carol"

Ding ding ding. We have a winner. Figured it would be quick. Nicely done.

My next clue would have been, a person with this name, was known as a red head, but born a brunette.

Well from what I can tell there are only about 20 possibilities. Of those only one of them had 1 campsite listed. When I looked at the ratings: OgimaaBines in 2006 said it was rarely used and reclaimed by the woods, in 2009 WhiteWolf said that he looked for it two different years in a row (2001 and ?) and it definitely didn't exist).
