Any intel on Entry 16, Moose River North up to Boulder Bay? Our group is heading up next week. How are the portages, water levels, and everything else that will help me answer the questions that my crew keeps asking me.

I'd be interested too. Heading up the Moose ( south) into Big Moose on the 11th. Any intel would be appreciated!

The portages all the way from the parking lot to LLC/Boulder Bay are uneventful in normal years. My guess is no different this year, shouldn’t be complicated or difficult. The longest portage is from the parking lot to the first put-in. My experience is the water on the river sections isn’t moving fast at all…hardly notable in fact. Easy paddle both directions. It takes 7 hours from the parking lot to get on LLC with double portaging and not pushing too hard. Several nice campsites close by once on LLC.

Thanks Plander. That is encouraging

FYI. Over the past few years there have been several reports of bears visiting some of the campsites on Agnes.

The Moose and Nina Moose Rivers are extremely high right now with strong current (relative to previous years).

You will have no problems going in. Just be aware of upcoming rapids and make sure you identify portage trails and hug the shore of the trail during your approach.

Coming out will be a bit challenging because the current is so strong, especially on the Moose River. We came out on 6/2 and really had to dig in paddling against the current. The next-to-last portage was especially tricky as the current at the top of the portage was so strong that it kept pulling our canoe down towards the rapids before we could get in. My partner broke his nice carbon fiber paddle trying to brace the canoe against some rocks (if you're reading, sorry again Dave), and we eventually had to wade the canoe up river several yards to get away from the current.

Also keep in mind that Boulder Bay / Boulder River is EXTREMELY flooded right now. We did the 175 rod portage out of the north Dahlgren into Boulder Bay, and the last 100 feet of the portage trail was completely submerged -- we had to paddle it.

We could not even locate the 113 rod portage from Boulder Bay into Agnes. It seems that the water was so high that the entrance to the trail was completely submerged and obscured by tree branches that would normally be 10+ feet above. We did find two wooden planks floating in the high water which we assumed were from the portage trail. We had to give up on that one and paddle the full length of the river to the shorter portage next to the falls.

It seems that the closer you get to Lac La Croix, the worse the flooding is.

Just be careful and aware, and you'll be okay.
