Has anyone been through Angleworm or Mudro going up to Crooked Lake in the last few days? Hearing of some flooding in the area, I'm curious of how the portages and creeks are at right now.

Mainly concerned about Spring Creek on the that crosses the Portage from Angleworm Entry Point to Angleworm Lake.

Heading starting our trip on 6/8!

Did Angleworm last year, never again with those portages!! Just got back from Crooked going through Mudro. Went down and back up Horse. Water was up, sure, but nothing too crazy. Hug the Canadian shoreline just under the LBF falls and paddle hard in a few of the pinch points between Thursday bay and the falls. Had 3 portages on the way down horse and 4 or 5 on the way back up it. All in all, water is way up but it’s better than it would be way down.

Did the Mudro-Horse River-LBF-Crooked/Friday Bay-Gun-Fourtown loop May 20-26.. Horse River was definitely up and moving faster than normal, and there were a couple spots that we normally portage that we paddled through - with some excitement (only portaged 3 times on the Horse River-usually do a couple more portages than that along Horse River). LBF was raging. Seemed like 3 ft above normal water levels below LBF and on Crooked. Fire grates at some campsites on Crooked were under water. Water levels appeared to be cresting and begining to drop during our time on Crooked. Water levels on papoose down to Boot/Fourtown were up slightly but not anything like what was on Crooked and Iron (Curtian Falls and just below on Iron were the highest I have ever seen). Generally speaking, the portages were not bad, though some had flossing close to the put-ins and take-outs. Caution was taken on the approach to the LBF portage take-out after coming out on the Horse River onto Basswood River-approaching from the East on the shoreline to make sure we didn’t get sucked over.

Thanks for posting on recent trips. We are hoping for a bit of additional insight please for upcoming trip of average paddlers heading to Crooked late next week. I believe waters levels and flow should continue to drop with the drier short term forecast.
1) As we are determining our exit routing around June 26 - choice will be Horse to Mudro or Basswood River all way past Upper Basswood Falls. With the high waters, how tough was paddling upstream at pinch points, falls, and put ins for Basswood River, Wednesday Bay, or Horse - is it just a bit of effort for a few minutes for either upstream route, or will it add a lot of time and difficulty to the trip for a certain route?
2) Will finding any open campsites be really tough since a few may still be impacted by high water?
3) Any update on fishing areas to focus on with the high water on Crooked or Basswood River?
Any additional feedback is appreciated during this high water season as this will be our first trip to Crooked.
Thank you

Just got back last night. Mudro/Horse/LBF/Thursday bay. I concur with everything said here. Portages were pretty muddy, falls were ripping and the narrow spots on Crooked take a bit more effort when paddling against the current. Horse River was really high. One of our guys got sucked over sideways at a portage--he was in a solo and a little light weight. He was never in danger but he was cold and wet the rest of the way in. You'll notice trees underwater where there were once islands. And points with pine trees on them now in the water.

Fishing was still really good, but places you usually fish like big current are really ripping and fish may be in places you don't usually look. We caught our biggest ones in odd places it seemed.

Black flies at my face off. Bugs really bad. Crooked never disappoints.
