Has anyone ever fished on Pemmican Lake just off of Mountain? If so how was it?

i havent but theres a few on here that have , and they've caught fish but mention a non-maintained portage with a lot of down fall.

this is correct. its a climb, crawl, duck, heave-ho... uphill. one way in and one way out.

if needed, you can stop part way and head off to the latrine that is there for the campsite at the bottom where this portage starts.

I read on someone's trip report, they caught Lakers on that lake..I'm guessing it's panfish and brook trout though.

Matthew Posa made the hike up to Pemmican Lake. The reputation is real, and the legend is growing. The fishing? Not sure yet. LOL

As for portaging a boat - good luck. Especially if it's over 25#'s.

Posa's hike to Pemmican Lake

The whole trip video is worth watching: From McFarland, to John, down and around to North Fowl, up along the border lakes to Mountain, down to the east end of Clearwater to Caribou, little Caribou, to Pine, and back out. I believe they stayed at campsite 754 on the last night. Just a gorgeous view up Pine Lake.

Not many people showcase the BWCA as well as Posa.

It's definitely in my top 5 toughest trails in the bwca. You will earn your stripes just walking up sans canoe & gear! :)

Video of portage trail

I've had both phenomenal success & gotten skunked on different trips. But, worth the roll of the dice IMHO.

Years ago, I bushwhacked to Pemmican from West Pike. Caught a few brookies from shore and returned. Mountain Lake is motorized on he Canadian side, and Canadians sometimes poach on Pemmican... Less remote than you might believe.
