Just got back from my yearly trip to Alpine. Wolves howled for four nights, but never saw any. We got a campsite and, to our surprise, my friend's cell phone, that he brought in as a camera, rang. Yes, there is now cell phone service for US Cellular customers. No idea where the tower is. Listening to the wolves was much better.

By the way, it was a SPAM phone call.

Oh ugh! A spam call in the BWCA?! I better warn my husband to keep his phone off unless in the process of actually taking pics.

Sorry you didn't get to see a wolf. I did see one but no howling. I was on my way home from one of my fields when a wolf that had been walking the road disappeared into the woods about 100yds ahead of me. There was scat evidence that the wolf or wolves have been using that road all year.

Very cool about the Wolves! Not so much about the phone call!

I will be on Alpine next week!

Did you howl back at them?

We were camping last Feb around Shell Lake and heard a few. We howled back, and a female was sent down to investigate our camp after the sun had set. Was pretty fun to see.

While archery hunting I had let three deer pass by so I would have a shot at the last one which would not be so spooky, having seen the previous deer go through. Just before I began my draw, a wolf howled. Instantly all deer stopped and wouldn't move until the howl was completed and then they were all at high alert. No chance to get a shot after that.
