Like Schweady, I also just bought my first 10x14 1.1 oz CCS tarp. For those of you who have 10x14 tarps, do you run your ridge line the long or short direction? I’m thinking about running it the short direction to give myself more length for “folding” down the backside to protect against wind. But maybe there are other considerations I’m overlooking.
I’m very appreciative of all the tarp and rigging threads everyone has contributed to here. I’m looking forward to giving the umbrella rigging favored by butthead a try in addition to the ridge line rigging.

More often than not (knot?) I rig my 10x14 the short way. Once in a while, the campsite is nuanced enough that I'll set it up the long way. My parachute approach needs work so I'll probably try and do a few of those on my next trip.
I've got the heavier 10x14 CCS and it is only limited by my abilities. Awesome tarp having withstood a lot of use and abuse.

Same here with a 10x14 1.9oz....pretty much always lengthwise on the ridgeline, but that's a good idea. No wrong way, just adapt to whatever the campsite conditions dictate.
I too would like to master the umbrella type method, but it might be comical just to see me try.

Hey, pcallies -
I didn't even give it a thought: I rigged mine and prepped it inside Dan's ridgeline bag with the ridge rope run the long way. I figured that the 14 ft of tarp length would be the main coverage concern and then I would deal with the corner tie outs as the landscape presented itself, either tied to convenient trees or staked to points on ground.
I can see where running it the other way might be handy, as it would provide 2 extra feet on each side before dropping lower to the ground, so now, you may have me over-thinking this... :-)

I run ridgeline across the short side of my 10x14. I figure its a short 14x14 tarp instead of a long 10x10 tarp... if that makes sense. I won't change it back. Rigged inside the ridgeline bag, which I love. I also run the Lean through the ridgeline bag.
