Has anyone tried any of the cheap Whopper Plopper copycats, other than the Berkeley Choppo? I have a hard time spending that much on one lure. I know many of you feel that it’s well worth it, I’m just wondering if anyone has experience with any cheap copies. Thanks!!

Many people say they can’t tell any difference. I have about 10 of the whopper Ploppers so I’m good for a while.

The Berkley choppo works exactly the same as the whopper plopper. Save yourself a few bucks.

We just returned from an 8 day trip and we caught several smallmouth using the Choppo. I wouldn't hesitate to buy more of them in the future.

Why "other than the Choppo" ??

Yes some imitations work just fine. I also have the Choppo and the OG ploppers

Some call the WP a knock-off.
The only brand name that matters is Rapala in my opinion.

I bought some knockoffs on Amazon (before I permanently quit shopping there), and they were crap. I have mostly Choppos and a few WP branded ones and I actually prefer the Choppo. I catch fish with both, but caught none on the Amazon knockoffs and they were flimsy and the lure action was inconsistent and unreliable. Not the same. You get what you pay for in this instance.

I just included the Choppo because it is a similar price. I was looking for feedback on the really cheap ones like at Amazon. Sounds like you get what you pay for. That’s the question I was looking to get answered. I really appreciate the info!

It's certainly a "you get what you pay for" situation.

All these variants are just smaller versions of the old school chopper style, muskie baits.

Sure, the $5 variant from Walmart makes a similar commotion on top of the water, but the wire is extremely weak and the propeller action will change after you catch a few fish on it.

The River2Sea Whopper Plopper has a soft plastic "chopper" on the back, while the choppo has a larger hard plastic "chopper" on the back.

Both make a similar bit of commotion on the top of the water, but I'd say the choppo makes more sound and more splash.

My personal best 21" 4.8 lbs Largemouth came on a Choppo 105 in the Ghost Blue Gill pattern.

My son's personal best Largemouth of about 3 lbs came on the Perch colored Whopper Plopper.

I'm a big believer in both baits, and have a variety of colors and sizes of both, and I'm gifting some family members their first Choppo's for Christmas next week!
