I haven’t been up to the BW in far too long, shame on me! I’m am leading a group the first week of September and I’ve been struggling to choose an EP. We want to base camp and fish for a week, species doesn’t matter much, just looking for good action! There are 6 of us going, three boys and our three fathers. The “boys” as they still call us are 40 so the dads are 65-70. The “old men” as we call them still get around pretty well but I don’t want to accidentally break one of them with long portages or hard paddles across big open water. I don’t need specific fishing spots or any secrets, we’ll figure out how to catch them. Where would you start your adventure that time of year to catch fish?
This is a perfect trip to take a tow from LaTourells on Moose lake to the splash portage. Then paddle over to Ensign lake and camp. Plenty of walleye there, also is Smallmouth bass there too. They will be hungry to fatten up for the winter.
