After a recent 10 day, 9 night Quetico trip, I'm having some serious difficulty readjusting to civilization. Lol Anyone else have this problem?

So you keep swatting your body expecting to find evil little creatures.

Having your significant other do a full-body "tick check" is one home remedy that seems to work.

Evil might be a bit harsh, but they sure are soulsucking parasites.

We are talking about the kids, right?

Do you still pee downwind?

Driving is my issue, too. After being outdoors for 10 days or so I tend to get sleepy in an enclosed space. I have to stop and air myself out frequently. My trip home is three days. I have been fortunate to ease back into the craziness the last few trips. I come out about noon on a Wednesday, change into some leisure clothes and wander on down to Grand Marais, stopping at Polar Haus or Trail Center for lunch. Do my laundry at the laudromat with the nice view of Lake Superior. My room at Nelson's is ready at 3PM for a shower and nap. On to Angry Trout for dinner and then check out any live music at the places downtown. I wander out to Artist Point to get away from people if I have to. I start out early Thursday morning and head to Sugarloaf Cove Nature Center for their Thursday morning bird banding - a great opportunity to see birds up close with some real special people. Back on the road through Duluth and out to Superior Point for some more birding. Finally start driving seriously for a night near Chippewa Falls. After two more days of driving I am happy to enjoy the route through the southern Appalachians to home. There is usually so much to catch up with at home that I don't get to pine for the BWCA much - for a few weeks anyway.

My first trip I felt like I was on LSD returning back to the world. I was like Tom Hanks in that movie, switching on the light again and again in bewilderment. Amazing feeling, and wears off too fast for my taste!

It is an acclimation. Luckily, we can close our eyes and recall. There is a magic about that part of the world... The land of benevolent spirits.
