I messed up and stored a good boat compass next to a steel object and now it doesn't track right. I have tried to adjust it but no luck. Any cure?

Are electrical - digital compass also affected by iron?

Not sure about a boat compass but a regular baseplate style can be remagnetized again by stroking a rare earth magnet on the south or opposite side over the red or north part of the needle. So you need to identify the south side of the magnet and that is the side that will attract the north side of the compass needle. You should give it a try.

I also do this to tools when I’m working on electronic equipment with a magnetize/demagnetize tool.

I use the compass on my phone. We also use it for the camera but keep it off when not in use and recharge with a small solar device.
