Great right up! I would be interested in seeing some pics of your pack raft. The creeks looked so beautifully clear, very unlike the the glorified storm sewers they call creeks where I live.

Thank you for the pic, that was not what I was envisioning. Although I purchase light gear for the most part, I would have a 120 litter pack and an 80 liter or so food pack. I would likely need a PakCanoe. Something to think about for the future. Thank you again for the write up and the pic. PakCanoe

How did you carry the gun while paddling?
Stowed, if so how did you keep it dry?
Did you have it handy while on the rivers?

I lived in AK for 3 years and did alot of paddling there.

I just strapped the gun to my pack. It did not keep dry but the gun was a cheap shotgun so I wasn't too concerned about causing rust. Since it was strapped in, I had bear spray on my hip while paddling in the unlikely scenario of a moose/bear charging my packraft.

A couple random shots of some of my paddles in AK.

Looks Like you had a good time- Bugs seemed to be a big part of your experience. I may have missed it but did you rent the packraft or buy one.

Rented it. It was $280 for 7 days which is almost exactly how much a solo kevlar canoe costs in the BWCA. The difference is that a kevlar canoe retails for $3,000 while this packraft retails for $1,300. So it was a difficult decision on whether to buy the raft or rent it.

The creek looks so shallow, but you said that fishing was too easy. Were there pools where you caught fish or did you catch them in the rippling shallows too?

I've caught grayling in 1-2 feet of water. But you are right, most of the fish were caught in deeper eddy's of 3+ feet depth near rapids.
