Looking for trip planning resources or someone with firsthand experience tripping on Lake Nipigon. I'm considering a 7-12 day trip there in summer 2023. I've found some online resources such as myccr but wondering if there's anything or anyone out there with more information.

Thanks for any help you can provide.

I have only ever stayed on Lake Nipigon for 1 night, 2 days when we came off the Kopka River....Wabinosh Bay area. It was easy to find camping spots on islands or the shore. But I don't have any resources for you. We just went and winged it :) Sounds like spending a week would be awesome.

Yes, I know Lost Lakes and asked him about his trip in the comments to his video. Thanks for pointing this out though.

Looks like the trip is going to turn out to be more like 14-18 days. Hopefully we have as much luck as you did!

Many campsites on the numerous small islands off the western shore easily accessed through the Gull Bay First Nations Reserve off Hwy 527 north of Thunder Bay. The Reserve probably still operates a launch and parking area, but I haven’t been there since September 2002.

We paddled about 50 miles of the northwestern shore in the 70s. A long time ago but I have vivid memories. It’s similar to Lake Superior, it’s huge with waves to match. We were in prospectors, a bit of rocker and deep. Never felt in danger. Had we been in mn2s I’m sure we would have been shore bound most of that trip

View the new video posted to YouTube “A Week Camping Alone on the Sixth Great Lake”. Sorry but I couldn’t figure out how to post a link.

That’s Jon of Lost Lakes. It’s an excellent video report as most all of his are.
