Anyone else unimpressed with these?

Seems like all of the major manufacturers ship these exclusively now.

Took my two Primus bottles back to MEC. Had a leak.

Looking for alternatives - BRS? Laken?

I hadn't seen the child-proof caps until googling after reading your post. Yeah, not impressed, and the reviews I found suggested no one else is impressed, either. My Sigg caps are probably 30 years old, work fine, just need a new O-ring every few years, don't think I'll change them out.

Child proof? I also had to look these up. Question to you all, what exactly makes these childproof? They look a bit bigger where they meet the bottle. I must be missing something. Please explain.

Here is what I do with my scary, dangerous, unsafe old school fuel bottles caps. O-rings get replaced when bad or take a set in them. They get filled with gas and I screw the lid on really tight. Then it goes in my pack. When in camp I try to open the lid and it by now two weeks later the o-ring has taken a set and I can’t open it. I’m 6’4” 260 pound adult and I can’t open it. I look for a stick on the ground to use for leverage to open it.

I would like to see the Superman kid that can open a fuel can that I put on a week before.

Then I read the reviews on these child proof caps and many were returned because of leaking. Another example of a solution looking for a problem. Can’t make this up if you tried.

They are spring-loaded...two pieces. It sounds like California insisted on this modification but don't quote me.

MSR, SIGG, Primus/Optimus, share the same cap threads and interchange. MSR other stores carry one brand or another. Watch for Oriental caps though many have different threads.

Don't screw them on so tight, ya big galoot! They will seat and be leak proof.

I have been on several longer trips with the childproof MSR caps on MSR bottles and have had no issues.

In fairness, the complaints about leaks seamed to be mostly motorcyclists. Perhaps these caps underperform while bumping around on the road. Mine leaked in my food barrel in the truck on a seventeen hour drive. Not much food left and we just packed them in there on the last day when it didn't matter. Regardless, I don't have faith. It seems like a very bizarre way to store a flammable substance.

I use the MSR bottles and while I wish the default wasn't the child-proof cap, I have never had any issues with them and it's never been worth spending the dollars to swap them out for the non-child-proof versions.
