What size? What color?

I'm sure this has been addressed many times in this forum, but not near the top.

I like to use the lightest line I can. However, I expect to do some trolling with rapalas/heavy spoons and expect (hope?) to occasionally tie into a big pike or laker. What test would you recommend?

Also, how do folks feel about green line in typical BWCAW/Ontario waters? It *looks* to me like it disappears better than clear line. But I'm not a fish. Is there a downside in some situations? What do you like best?

I'll only have one rod, so looking for the best all-round selection rather than something for a specialty.

Thanks!

I use 10lb fireline on medium to medium light action rods. It should handle anything you catch up there. Just need to set your drag appropriately for your rod.

If I had one rod/reel to do it all up there, it would either have 8lb mono with 6lb as a close second option or......somewhere like 12lb braid. I like sufix 832 or power pro but many good options.

If I thought I was going to do more slip bobber and trolling live bait for walleye I'd go with the mono route. If I was planning on a lot of casting I'd go the braid route

Thanks folks!

Any thoughts on that green line? Are there places it would be a disadvantage?

Also, having read the forum about the purpledescent deep diving tail dancer 11, I picked one up and am excited to try it. Think 8# mono would stand up? I also got a tail dancer 9. So I could make that adjustment instead.

I use 6 lb. test for Walleye & 10 lb. test braid for northern. If you are after monster northern I would consider 20 lbs. test. Most of the time I don't worry about line color as I put on a fluorocarbon leader. I don't know whether green line makes a difference or not.

I'd use 8 lb. mono. Trilene XT because the rocks do abrade line. 8 lb. is plenty to land 40" plus pike.

Most of my mono spools are the moss green or whatever the dark green is called. I've never noticed any difference when compared to the clear stuff as far as fishing success goes.

For trolling I use 10lb clear mono line. Either Berkley Trilene or Stren.

I also have reels with 8lb mono and 6lb mono.

I always get new line from a bait and tackle store put on the reels before a trip.

I always have an extra spool in the tackle bag.

On my last trip I had 5 of the same kind of reel and 6 spools of line.

And these reels all went on light or medium ugly stik fishing rods. The rigs were either trolling, TGO, zulu, or slip bobber. When trolling, I use the medium action rods.
