Hi all,

I had the anti-reverse repaired on a Shimano Symetre in 2021.

On my most recent trip last week, the anti reverse was not working again.

This reel is also used for slip bobber rigs where occasionally no matter what I do, including getting in the canoe to try to retrieve the rig, I have to tighten the drag all the way and pull until the jig head breaks off and is left on the rock it is snagged on.

Does tightening the drag all the way and pulling until the line breaks off damage the anti-reverse on a spinning reel?

Thanks,
rdg

If you are worried about it just wrap the line around the handle and pull your line. This way there is zero stress on your reel. Drags are meant to be cranked down when fighting big fish.

Just hold the spool and pull if you have to break off.
You can damage the anti reverse bearing.
When snagged I pluck on a tight line to try and pop the bait off the rocks/timber.
After about 7-8 years the anti-reverse starts becoming ineffective.

Like Amarillojim said, hold the spool to break off.
