Hello everyone

I have a permit for this Sunday for North Kawishiwi. I was originally thinking of heading down to bald eagle and then up through the PMA to lake two and back out but then I read about the derelict portages in the PMA and reconsidered. I don't mind hard work but I worry about hardcore bushwhacking solo sometimes. Now I am considering a loop through the numbered lakes up through snowbank and over to moose where I'll be close to the truck again. I would probably actually exit the water at jasper lake if possible.

Is that too ambitious for a 6 day loop? I'm fairly experienced and travel somewhat light. I'll be double portaging though. I was also curious about exiting at jasper. Is there an easily accessible public landing on that lake where I could leave my stuff while I hike over to the ojibway triangle landing for the truck?

Any insight from this fine community is always appreciated!

Lefty

I would contact one of the outfitters on Moose Lake. You could arrange a shuttle with them back to your truck. We have used Williams and Halls for a few years and have found them to be very reasonable and accommodating.
Your would have a secure place to leave your gear and could get a shower before heading home.
Looking at land ownership map I don’t see any public landing on Jasper Lake. The area you would be trying to access the road is privately owned.
Also, the trip should be very doable in 6 days.

That trip seems very doable in the timeframe you outlined. I do not know much about Jasper Lake, though, and whether you could exit there. But Tofte Lake has a public boat landing you could use. Water Access for Lake County

Hey Lefty,

I like your loop. I don’t think it’s too ambitious at all. The only problem is that Jasper doesn’t have a public access. There is nowhere to leave a car on Jasper. If you want, you can contact Northwind Lodge (on Jasper) and ask them if you can take out at their landing. Northwind Lodge is right across the road from the Ojibway Lake road so it would be a short walk from Jasper to your car.

Thanks everyone this has been great info so far.

I inquired with Williams and Hall about a shuttle but I think I'll keep coming out at Tofte in my back pocket as well since it has a public landing and is less than a mile from the truck it looks like.
