Awhile back, timatkn posted some pics of his stunning new Northstar Stealth canoe. I was intrigued by the Scotty low profile mounts that he installed, so I reached out to him a week or so ago to ask about the install. He was kind enough to share a video with me and give me some additional advice and encouragement that I would not ruin the carbon fiber thwart on my Swift Keewaydin if I attempted the install.

The thought of drilling into the thwart and riveting the low profile tracks into place spooked me, but it was really easy; in less than 10 minutes the job was done, I did not destroy a thing and my neighbors did not need to listen to me loudly cursing!

So, thanks so much Tim-and by extension dshult2 whose earlier post I also dug into. This board is the best!

Looking forward to getting onto the water with my new toys!

Nice. Glad I could help. One thing I did learn about the camera mount though is it not really tall enough. The bow of your canoe gets in the way. You need the Scotty ball mount system #151 to go with it. Unfortunately you can't just buy the ball mount and need to buy the whole system but it's cheap and you'll have an extra gear head and low profile track mount. Plus it's a lot easier to move your camera when it's mounted.

Appreciate the advice. I will not, however, be using the camera mount for a camera. Rather, I have a HawkEye Fishtrax locator that will screw onto the camera mount.

Did you add a screw in mount to the fish finder? if so how? I have a Vexilar CLC-200. Just leave it on the floor but would be better if it was on the thwart. I don’t want to add much weight though.

That is a great locator-wish they were still made! The HawkEye has a built in screw receptacle, I would post a pic, but a buddy is currently using it in the BW. It is a small, hand held unit.
