What do you all use, if anything, for the ground under your hammock?
I just switched to one this year. First couple trips I used a canoe kneeling pad, but it's too big and bulky to justify when I don't kneel paddling.
This last trip I didn't bring anything and ended laying a jacket on the ground so I could step out of the hammock on it to get my shoes on and stay out of the dirt. Didn't like that option very well and need a better solution.

I want to have something to step out onto when I don't have shoes on, and as you experienced, jacket on the ground is no bueno. I have used a small piece of polycro (plastic window covering) in the past, but a year or two ago, I switched to this SLD Mud Mat . Great durability, and I like the stake loops. Just make sure to use something like an L-shaped hook stake so that you're not at risk of stepping on a protruding piece of metal.

50# bags the cracked corn I use to feed the birds comes in. Approximately 2.5x3 feet when opened cutting one side and the bottom. These also serve as pack liners. Someday I will get a footprint or? I use my camp chair as night table.

I think that may be the ticket. I used a one man before the hammock but I think it's ground cloth will work. Has stake loops as well, like the mud mat posted above.

Mine is a cut open former firewood bag made from that woven plastic fiber stuff. It's roughly 24x36 and nice, other than shedding fibers...
