Good Day to the forum!

Will be hopefully doing a solo trip starting at EP 37 in mid May. Does anyone have an opinion on best map for that Area? I have the Nat Geo map at present, but wanted to get opinions before I pull the trigger on a Fisher, Voyageur or MacKenzie for a more detailed map of the area.

Also, if anyone had the info on what military mapsheet covers this area? Im an old soldier, and 1/50,000 is my default setting so to speak.

How far to do plan to travel? Voyageur Map 8 covers a large portion of this area. I think you will find the Voyageur Map very helpful compared to the NG or military maps.

I always use Fisher maps but I am not sure I would really call them detailed. I do believe they are accurate though when trying to find sites and portages.

I'm bringing my own canoe and will be totally on my own hook for 5 days. Not really beholden to any schedule. The best non answer answer I can give LOL

I second this suggestion. Voyageur has a good map for this area. It will take you as far east as Alice and Thomas and as far north as Boulder and Makwa.

Check the Sawbill Outfitter website. They have a set of MacKenzie maps made especially for the them. An East Sawbill and a West Sawbill map. You will need the West Sawbill map.

West Sawbill Map

This map will cover all the way from Kawishiwi to LIttle Sag (S-N) and from Alice to the west end of Long Island Lake (W-E). It is a very useful map.

If not this, then I also like the Voyager Maps.

That’s a pretty great map sheet. I didn’t know that Sawbill had those.

Maps are like outiftters, canoes, tents etc... the best one is the one you like best. All of then listed on the site here are good-- it is really subjective to decide which is best . (Which is why I have two or three different ones on each trip :) ) I've always had a commitment problem...lol
