Looking for recommendations on a car spot for my solo trip that now looks to be Hogg Creek to Isabella. Plan on taking it slow, seeing things, not racking up miles over 3-4 days. Sawtooth's website says they have discontinued the service due to lack of staff. I suppose I could hope it would change......

But need a contingency.

TIA

Drop your stuff off at Hog Creek drive to Isabella and ride a bicycle back to Hog Creek. Stash the bike in the woods locked to a tree.

ROFL, why not go for the cheaper option, get a girlfriend who drives her car up there and then we don't have to worry about a car spot!

No way is a girlfriend a "cheaper option"!

Not sure that deserved a ROFL since bike shuttles aren't that uncommon. Especially the short distance you're traveling.

I'm just curious where on Sawbill's site you read that they won't drop you off at the EP anymore? this page has a form where you can specifically request a shuttle to Hog Creek for $90.

SawTOOTH, not Sawbill. Nonetheless, if I understand him correctly (it's not perfectly clear), he intends to enter at Hog Creek and exit at Isabella, so it's not a shuttle to Hog Creek he needs, but one between Hog Creek and Isabella. I don't know the exact mileage, but it's a fair distance from Sawbill to Isabella then back to Sawbill. The distance and time combined may make the cost prohibitive. As Blatz said Luke, shuttling yourself by bike is not unusual, and hoofing it is another option although this would probably be in the neighborhood of a marathon. The farthest I ran/walked between EP's was ~ 9 miles.

I do own a bike, a vintage English one that I picked up cheap, with the idea of doing a tweed ride or two. But it needs a few hundred dollars worth of work to be roadworthy, and is just not something so would leave chained to a tree for a week.

So my options are:

1. Give up the idea of a solo trip and recruit a person who wants to drive up separate.

2. Invest 2-3 times what a car spot costs in restoring a vintage bike and hope my bike doesn’t get stolen

3. Buy a cheap bike, and hope it doesn’t get stolen.

4. Get in tinder and find a Tofte gal, have our first face to face be a canoe trip. I’ve seen a hundred relationships end on the AuSable river over the years. So yea, I’m laughing!!!

Go to a thrift shop or garage and get one. As long as it works. You're not going to be riding it very far

Why would you have to give up on a solo trip? Just curious why you need to go from one EP to another? You had a previous thread asking about travel from EP 36 to 37. You don't need to travel between entry points or is that something you just have your heart set on doing? Lot's of good solo options entering and exiting at the same EP.
