I’ve tried everything at least once in regards to camp coffee. I’ve perked it, done cowboy coffee, brought grinders and beans, instant coffee bags… to get that perfect morning cuppa.

This year we’re doing a more aggressive route with more portaging than usual and really working to lighten the load. With that goal in mind, I ordered a sampler of WAKA instant coffee. Holy cow, the stuff is amazing!! If it wasn’t so pricy, I’d use it for my go-to everyday!

Sounds like a commercial, but it’s no. I’m just happy to find something that I’ll look forward to drinking in the morning.

Hey Greybeard, thanks for pointing out this coffee option. I ordered a Waka single serve sample pack to try and found that it is pretty good as well, i really like the light roast Ethiopian and Papua NG flavors. I'm sure it'll be even better tasting around camp.

When I'm in the wilderness any coffee tastes good and I always use instant. I'll have to try this one, it doesn't hurt to take it up a notch.

I'm pretty far from a coffee snob. Almost any light roast "Breakfast Blend" type coffee will satisfy me. To that point, Folgers single coffee bags answer the call... and they're easy to pack.

I'm a real coffee user, and bring an aeropress. But the wirecutter just did a review of instant coffees that I found interesting. And their reviews of various things has never dissapointed me.

Solved for me. Doctor said I had to stop all caffeine. Makes mornings much faster not needing hot water.

Shug on his youtube channel has championed Medaglia d'Oro Instant Espresso. I have hauled whole beans, via packs, and even tried to go without caffeine while camping. I found some at my local grocer and am now hooked. Now I just take a baggie of it. I even take it in my backpack on to hotels because it is better than kcups or most hotels coffee.

Like some of you, I have tried just about every method and instant brand. I have transitioned from instant to fresh back to instant. Medaglia ‘ Doro and Cafe Bustelo are probably my favorite instant. The weight/space factor and ease of preparation sells it for me. I love the Starbuck’s packets too but they get a little pricey if you are a multiple cup per day person.

Here’s a new brand that I just found it this winter. It’s tea bag style. Tastes pretty good.

You made me chuckle :)

To those of us who do identify as coffee snobs (I like the term coffee elitist myself :)) Saying that Folgers answers the call would be like saying "That Coleman Canoe behind the woodpile is just fine for my Wilderness trip-- cuz a canoe is a canoe!

(You know I'm just teasing. OK, not really) LOL

How does it compare to Via? Worth the extra money? I've done Via for years and have been happy with it since I'm not super picky, but if it's worth the added cost I might give it a shot. Amazon sells 12 2oz jars for $40...how far will that get me?

One of our axioms is "everything tastes good out here".

Instant coffee has come a long way. I'm a Nespresso guy at home but perfectly happy with Nescafe Gold Cappuccino instant in the woods
