White courtesy phone, as in snow phone. Hopefully.

What are your thoughts on this developing system? Has the system been properly sampled yet?

Usually, when things like this get all hyped up, my area, NW Indiana, gets rain followed by wind, then some back side consolation snow. So I'm not getting too excited yet. It would be nice to be in the jackzone for once.

LOT in the past has been burnt bad by jumping the gun.

Thx.

I could write a ton. But keep it short and sweet--- right now your (Merriville,In) in the JACK zone.

Of course it could and almost certainly change. No- not properly sampled- not until Wed AM. But right now I WOULD LOVE to be in your location.

Enjoy the weather - it's the only weather you got.

Thanks. If I ever get out to DSM, I'll buy dinner.

The 2 meter temp plot of the polar front is simply amazing. I have a feeling I'll be feeding the woodstove in the middle of the night.

The graphic below shows a -70F wind chill forecasted in LUSK,WY. ThaT IS INSANE FOR THE LOWER 48. That is basically -33F air temp with a SUSTAINED wind of 30 mph. If your old enough to remember pre 2001 wind chill formula - that would = -95F.
It coldest forecasted wind chill I've ever seen in the lower 48.

Your snow situation ( as I said would change) has. Drastically down as you probably expected and know WAS not realistic. The same happened here in DSM--- 8-12" is not down to 4-7" -- but don't forget about the winds/cold. That is really the story of this system other than some locations in W.MI and the UP, but is not that usually the case.

Wyoming can get real cold. I spend a fair amount of time in Saratoga WY (elevation 7000ft) and have seen winds gusting well over 50mph. I80 in WY in the winter is closed a lot due to high winds, snow, and truck roll overs.

As for my area I am old enough to remember the 1978 storm.

I was hopeful that I would get more than the current forecast of 2-5 inches of snow. Oh well. With the wind it will be hard to measure anyway. Will still be fun to watch.

Thanks for your continued updates.

I do find it interesting that we almost never get a forecast for 2 to 5 inches of snow and end up with 20 inches. It's generally the opposite. Forecast for winter Armageddon with 20+ inches only to end up with 2 to 3.
