Does anyone know if Seagull lake would be safe to cross east to west this weekend? I've heard of the currents around the islands north of Three Mile Island so I was thinking of going under it. It seems like there are less islands close together going that route.

I have never been on Seagull in the winter so looking for some wisdom. Thanks!

Where are you entering? If you plan on parking at Trail's End and going down that inlet from the landing to Seagull heading south, more then likely you will have open water right where it narrows. There are slight rapids there that stay open for pretty much the whole winter.

I would start at the boat landing on Seagull and hug the south side of three mile island. I know the current you are talking about from a summer trip and I wouldn’t be near it.

I have been going in March regularly for the last 5 or so years and we have always parked at the boat landing. We always go North of 3 Mile Island. The only area that has been open water/sketchy ice in March is right by campsite #477 and you can avoid the open water by going through the campsite. But that is March so typically there is a lot more ice in general. Overall, this might be of no help. I would probably play it safe and go the south side of 3 mile island. Have fun!
