Hey Guys, our group is eyeballing Ogish for a basecamp on our annual BW trip. We will be going in Memorial day weekend and spending the following week there. From what I've heard, it is a solid lake for Walleyes, Pike and Bass and can find some lakers in there. Looking for general fishing advice on the lake and daytrip opportunities in the area. Looks like there are a lot of options including Spice, Holt, Kekekabic, and Jasper. We have seen Eddy falls on a previous trip to SAK so probably won't head to that area. This is our 10th trip and we generally fish hard all day and enjoy catching all 4 of the major species. We typically like to keep a few eater walleye and small pike for dinner each night with a bonus laker if we are lucky. We also have one guy that really likes big pike if there are any lakes around that area that have that opportunity.

I have fished Ogish a couple times so have some knowledge but it is not extensive. If you want to send me an email I can send some picture of maps and give some further thoughts. I don't mind posting on the thread. Its just much easier to share photos and other stuff via email. krausebe02@gmail.com

This intel is several years old but we have base camped on Ogish a number of times with great results and fond memories. We have stayed at the island site #785 twice and it is definitely a 4 star site and some in our crew would say 5 star. The other site that we have stayed at was #2329 which at the time was also a nice site. We have heard that this site might have been hit by some recent trees coming down so cannot say what kind of shape it is in today.
As far as fishing on Ogish it is definitely a multi species lake - great walleye, smallies, northerns and we have caught several splake out of Ogish but no lakers. I know it may seem odd to catch splake and no lakers but that has been our luck on two occassions.
Specific areas to fish would be around the islands southwest of site #2329 and the bays northeast and northwest of this same site for all four species. We also fished the back bays by the Mueller Lake portage with good success for smallies. Spice Lake is worth checking out for big pike and nice smallmouth action. The biggest pike on one of our trips came out of Spice.
A real good choice for a basecamp lake with a lot of day trip options.

We stayed at campsite 786. It was a nice site overall. I'd rate around a 4 star when we stayed there (2018). This was a very windy trip and were not able to fish as much as we wanted to. I can send more details with pictures if you want via email. Too hard to describe. Like I said it was windy so we fished the narrow section mid-lake a lot because it was protected. We did well for bass and pike around the timber and shoreline structure in mid-June.

We also did well around the rapids from Mueller and surrounding bays for bass and big pike. Especially, with going the end of May the moving water should attract fish quite a bit. Did really well on Walleye on the Northern side of the narrows section where it starts to drop off with lots of rocky structure. Caught walleye almost every cast in the evenings with slip bobbers and also casting jig with a twister tail/ live leech. Lots of smaller Walleye. Only 1 over 20" .

holt as always been on my wish list , if you go there , start early , but it's a lake that rarely gets seen by travelers.(it is a unmaintained portage) go to google earth both for a good idea of what your looking at for holt & for midlake reefs on ogish ,theres a reef on the west side that is like 6"the surface (pic included) if you do get into holt, would love to hear a report !!!

Love Ogish, been there twice in last three years and stayed at 785 both times. Fun island with spots to sit both on north and west side of island. Going to Kek is your best bet for Lakers and is a solid day trip. Last year in August, we found a spot in the back bay south of Spice Lake where we pulled in really nice sized Walleye and Smallmouth. Just a fun part of the lake with some nice overlook spots for lunch, feels very remote since there are no campsites in that section and it's a really small opening, almost a separate lake. Also recommend going to the falls on the Kek trail between Mueller and Agamok.
