See these are now available in the states. Anyone think they may have some value for the BWCA during open water. I picked one up to bring with me this spring.

Looks like a similar lure to me. Have used them on BWCA lakes years ago with good success for Lakers.

Yes, this one is longer but lighter. I think it is as long as a size 9 but weighs what the 7 does. Evidently this causes it to fall slower and glide more rather than shoot straight to the bottom. I was thinking shallow water walleyes. Be great if it will work for Lakers. I'll be trying that in May.

The best application for these in open water is on larger sandy/muddy flats that walleyes are cruising.

Rocky bottoms (like a lot of the BWCA) will cause you to go thru quite a few jigging raps before you tie on something else that is less snaggy.

They can be super effective tho and trigger aggressive reaction bites.

Be careful on how you fish it, especially if you're only bringing one. Jigging Raps are really tough in the BW because of all the rocks, you will lose them if you're not fishing them cautiously. Once June 15 rolls around, they are effective at targeting deep walleyes on reefs/mud flats. They are great for lake trout because you can fish them suspended, just over structure, to avoid losing them. I also like smashing bottom with them in deep water for lakers while drift-jigging. You are less likely to lose them the deeper the water you're targeting and the more vertical you fish them...I've found the Snap Raps are the most durable (one piece for body and tail, rather than a separate fin that WILL break off, guaranteed) for fishing in the BWCA.
