In preparation for permit booking to commence on wed, drop a note here as to what your trip plans are and why you decided on those route(s).

Probably just one trip this year for us, looking at the end of August maybe 20th through the 26th. Still undecided on entry point, but the clock is ticking on that decision... We haven't entered along the echo trail in several years leaning towards one of those entries. Might just depend on what I can get Wednesday.

Quetico via Moose Lake & Prairie Portage. 100 mile trip through Northern Tier for their 100th anniversary. We can get a special patch! I know you're all jealous.

The only real plan is the 100 miles and probably using the Agnes entry point. From there, one idea is to go to Kawnipi then work SSW to Kahshahpiwi, but the Yum-Yum portage seems concerning. I want to get us over to the Basswood River to see the pictos and the falls before returning to base.

Late May Crab Lake - mostly because I have never been and have heard good things. Solo or small group.

Possible trip July/August if the scout troop I have been leading decide to go and want me to come along now that my Scout has aged out. Most likely out of Saganaga or Moose. Destination will likely be permit availability driven.

October - Keeping some PTO on hand and hope to get a 4-5 day trip to LIS North. Another area new to me that I really want to check out.,

Two solos: one to LISN and one to Kawishiwi Lake.

Trip with my two youngest daughters to Baker.

Trip with my two oldest daughters to Saganaga to Knife then back to Brandt.

One in October, location TBD based on how the summer goes.

Trying a Gunflint trip in early May, a central PMA trip near the end of May, and a couple trips in the fall. Building a house this summer which I anticipate will eat up the rest of my trip time, though I may sneak out for a last-minute solo trip in there someplace.

A solo in June, enter at Hog Creek and come out at Kawishiwi Lake
A group trip in July with a couple newbies, enter at Kawishiwi Lake and head north
A reunion group trip (the women from my 1989 Camp Menogyn long trip) in August. Low key, just entering at Duncan and doing some day hiking and fishing.

A solo a few days before the opener hopefully Cross River. Doing the Frost river. 2nd week of Sept. with my daughter doing 6 or 7 days out of Sawbill. Hope to make it to Boulder Lake area.

Yes to that in late June.

Also, I might do a shake-out trip to Tak/Gun and travel out towards Pocket before looping back to Snow Bay for a pickup coming out of Crane....

Manitoba in July...

1 in late July: Sag - Ottertrack - Ester - Hanson - Cherry/Gigikiki/Lake of the Clouds - Ottertrack and back.

1 trip in mid June to Knife with my son.

One more with my daughter more toward end of season, but not sure of location yet. Probably one of the more popular ones since permits will be less of an issue and it's her first trip.

I am hoping to get a solo in there someplace if I can, but I will wait until closer to try and secure that permit.

Got our permit for Snowbank - I have always wanted to go to Kekakabic lake. I read a trip report years ago that described it as a beautiful lake.

Was through there last year and it is beautiful and some campsites look amazing. Also full of basecamping fisherman, good luck!

Got my permit for Wood Lake in June for some daddy/daughter fishing with 15 year old little duckling. Not so little anymore as she is taller than mom and big sister and close to me. I got some good intel from a Jedi about Wood Lake so I'm looking forward to some one on one time in the canoe and at camp with my daughter.

I don't need a quota permit for any of my other BWCA plans this year.........

I'll be taking 4 year old Bruin to Kawishiwi Lake campground in July or August for our 2nd annual father/son trip. He will be making his first BWCA trip with me in 2024.

We will also do a bunch of canoeing and hiking daytrips into the BWCA during an August week long family cabin stay at Rockwood and Oct. MEA /Moose Madness cabin stay in Grand Marais at Nelsons.

I'll also do a spur of the moment, long weekend solo sometime in Oct. like I did this year during Halloween weekend.

"route"? What is that? We take the shuttle to the Red Rock Lake portage and find our base camp for the week. We fish, explore, eat, hang out in camp, and wave at all the people we see that paddle by trying to get all those miles in!

Successfully pulled the following permits:
1) Late May solo to Kawishiwi. Would like to loop around the Humpback PMA.
2) Early June with two young daughters to Baker. Hoping for some fishing success together.
3) Late July with my two daughters who will be home from college to Saganaga/Ottertrack/Little Sag/Round.
4) September solo to LISN. Would like to loop around the Weeny Lake PMA but possibly exit at a different spot depending on available time.

Looking forward to canoe country therapy to fuel my soul.

Super excited for open water. 3 trips planned and permits secured.

Mudro to horse to crooked in June-fishing centered trip.

Moose to Knife in July-church youth group

Fall lake to Basswood in September- just me and my wife.

YJ, I did that loop several years ago. It's one of the most remote areas of the BW, we didn't see another soul for three days. After you get north of Boulder the portages are more like game trails. Regret that I didn't bring any deep-diving lures, Makwa is supposedly good for lakers.

Hey Bonvicken, Appreciate the tip on the deep diving lures for Makwa...I'll put some in for sure! Hopefully I can find similar solitude to what you experienced. Again, thanks for the insights.

Quetico S-Chain to Agnes and back May 27-June 3, with the family.
Border Route Challenge LIS North to Grand Portage September 2-9.
A solo somewhere in between those two.

Quetico, late August and early September. Prairie Portage/Carp lake entry, Man chain, Bit, Bell, Fran, Blackstone, Sag, Falls Chain, Kawnipi. Haven't decided on return leg--maybe some Agnes and out via Sunday Lake, maybe some Kahshahpiwi and out via Shade, North Bay, and Burke.

3rd week of April for my 11th annual trout fishing car camping trip to SE MN. Sometimes with a partner, sometimes alone which is fine with me. Always a good time as the woods and waters wake up and always fish caught. Excellent birding.

May 25th enter at LIS 14 for a 6-7 day trip for relaxation, photography and some fishing. Great time of year to go, been doing it for 10 years or so.

September 5th entry at Kawishiwi, want to show my buddy the Malberg lake area and surrounding area north and west. Probably 6-7 days also. Could be a couple more on this trip, we shall see.

Lots of car camping in between, we enjoy the more remote state park(walk in or backpack) and state and national forest campground options that allow for solitude, hiking, fishing and photo opportunities. There are plenty of those.

Planning to retire October 1 so probably some kind of longer epic trip, not sure exactly what that will be yet. Should be a good year.
