Especially in the winter camping, I have had these critters come into camp and steal or borrow lake trout laying on the ice. Also in the past grouse hunting doing a long trail, I would shoot a grouse and plan to pick it up on the way back. Come back and all I have is a pile of feathers. They are beautiful animal.

You have any camp visitor pictures?

I didn't get any pictures, but the red squirrels sure were entertaining last year. They'd run right under my camp chair while I was sitting in it. Didn't have any issues with them getting into my food bag, but one did almost grab an apple I had setting on a log during dinner one night.

Pinetree,

Those are cool pics of the pine marten! I've seen two in the BWCA but haven't been able to get a photo.

This baby snapping turtle was lost in the ashes of the firepit but we helped it find a way to the shore.

Last summer turtles invaded our camp every evening to lay eggs. One night there were over two dozen of them! Actually, when we first paddled up to camp several bald eagles flew away and had been feasting on the turtle eggs. I think staying there for a week saved a few turtles and made the eagles find a meal somewhere else. We had a bear approach camp, I think to eat the eggs but fortunately left without any issue.

Finally...what camp critter caused this???

Also known as mini bears. They usually get the most food from the bwca camper

Little bugger figured out how to steal our popcorn in about 30 seconds. This was at Trailsend campground on the gunflint.

That's just a hairy canoe camper who hasn't taken a bath for two weeks.

Once in Colorado a set a tent on top of a mouse or shrew nest underground and they chewed holes in the floor.

Over the years someone must have had squirrels, or something put a hole in the tent.

Always worried about porcupines chewing on my canoe paddles, but the more I think of it, I never have seen a porcupine or even a skunk in the BWCA.

Big brother to the Pine Marten, little more secretive, but will venture around camp if fish or something laying around.

I am sure some never have seen one or now what it is?

Looks like a fisher to me. I've seen three in the wild during my life but have never been able to capture a photo. Nice pic, Pinetree!

P.S. Pinetree, since this is your thread and it is related to photos...

What is the story of your profile pic? Where/when/who? If you don't mind.

That's a camping trip in the backcountry of Yellowstone. You get off the beaten path and you see no one and fishing is awesome. Just don't trip over Griz poop.
