1st walleye of the year was a dandy! In Iowa we have a continuous season. 12lbs 7oz. released to be caught by somebody else. I'm now having a beer and listening to Nice Fish by Anglin Wayne and the Trollers.

Nice Walleye…weird seeing open water for me.

I’ll be fishing Rathbun in May for my up north fishing warm up.

Huge fish!

@T Yeah, it's the same in Maine. Hard water and another 17 inches of snow in the last 24 hours on the heels of two 6" snowfalls.

Where in Iowa? I'm in Decorah - was just contemplating getting out on the Upper Iowa to see if the wallys are biting or not.

On the Maquoketa, the Upper Iowa, Turkey, Shell Rock, Cedar, and Wapsi are all great walleye rivers to fish from shore or by canoe.

Wow, that’s a beauty! I know it can’t be, but it almost looks like a sauger.

You forgot to mention where you caught it and what you were using.

Bwahahahahaha

Any length measurement on that fish??

Rule of thumb would say about 32" for 12 pounds.

Thanks, it's not too much of a secret where it was caught, big ones get caught there every year. It was at a local park with access to the Maquoketa River. I think the key to this location is that there is a sand quarry on the opposite side and every fall they suck sand out of the river creating a wintering hole. Unfortunately I didn't get it measured before I released it.
