I am travelling from Michigan to Camp Quetico in early June. Crossing border in Sault St. Marie. Does anyone have suggestions on where to lodge anywhere between White River and Thunder Bay? Since we will have an extra day to spread out our travel, anything scenic or worth a detour for on this route?

Thank you in advance!

My advice would be to plan on staying along the coast as opposed to anywhere inland like White River. You will not be bored on that drive. Terrace Bay has some stunning scenery. But the whole route from just north of the Sault (LSPP) is stunning. Plan on some stops like Old Woman Bay in LSPP and Aquasabon Falls in Terrace Bay.

If you're planning on travelling on an Ontario long weekend, make sure to book lodgings well in advance. Don't expect to book on the fly.

Cell service will be hit and miss along the way.

Stunning scenery on the north shore of Superior.

Agree with advance reservations.

I remember my family got the last hotel room in Marathon one time... Numerous other folks showed up just after us and were turned away.

The look of dismay on their faces was hard to forget; there aren't many other options for a very, very long way and they were going to be driving late into the night as a result.

When we go to Camp Quetico (leaving from the Detroit area), we stay at the Harbour Inn in Marathon on the way up. On the way home, we have stayed at the Beaver Motel in Nipigon and last year we stayed at the Wawa Motor Inn in Wawa. We just called ahead while traveling and last year (in August) found most places were already full. This year we are going back to Camp Quetico and have already booked rooms at the Harbour Inn and the Wawa Motor Inn so we don't have to worry about it. The front desk at the Harbour Inn has limited hours (or did last year) and the Wawa Motor Inn has a 24 hr front desk.
