I saw on the DNR lake information that LLC and North/South Lake have crappie. Anyone have any other information on them? We’re heading in on Memorial Day weekend and would like to get the wife into some if I can.

Boulder bay usually has some crappie. Can't say we've ever caught a ton.

Yes, Boulder Bay and we also caught them on Agnes near the mouth of the Nina Moose. I found them in around 10' in May and June. Never caught any up there outside of that time frame.

We got into them in Nina Moose just northeast of the campsite on the peninsula jutting down from the north. Paddle around to your left and follow the shore; there is a big rock pile around the way right in the middle of the bay. They were thick in there.

Don't forget to fish the trickle at the end of the short portage between Agnes and LLC.

What kind of lure or bait did you catch the crappie on?

It seems that live minnows are often recommended for crappie. I can't imagine packing live minnows over very many portages.

Caught some on Agnes few years back using leeches. Nice ones to.

Leeches and jigs, in amongst the walleye.

it is likely that most lakes in BWCA have crappies but most campers don't target them. Small jigs with twister tails work as do small lazy ikes (are those still made?). Orange seems to be a favored color but I suspect white twister tails and maybe other colors would work just as well.

I’ve never targeted the paper mouth on my BWCA trips. I’m doing a small solo loop between EPs 14 and 16 this year and after reading these posts, thinking of giving it a go. Bringing what works here in Texas and curious how the northern crappie react. We’ll see…
