The first portage in from the Nina Moose entry point requirers extra caution. The water is high, and the beaver dam partially blew out. It creates a channel of fast moving water right at the portage landing.
I'd suggest getting out along the bank prior to the log (you'll see it) then wading into the landing area to line/guide the canoe it. That's how we handled it going upstream coming out.

So just to clarify, that's the 24.5 rod portage that you encounter first on the river (after the 1/2 mi. portage down from the parking lot to the river)? Thanks for the heads-up! It might take awhile for water levels to go back down up there.

The 1st portage after the 160 rods from the parking lot. My map had it at 20 rods. My Fisher map has it at 20 rods.

Thanks for the clarification. This site has it marked at 24.5 but whatever. Water must be pouring through there if one has to approach it by wading from that far back. Thanks again for the heads-up.
