I saw Twins87 and Luft on Koma lake last week. I also saw Noel Krebs in Polly Lake. He doesn't post much but had all kinds of BWCA stickers I recognized.

Same trip last week that we saw Linden Tree on Koma, Luft & I met Tuscarora Bourealis & Aurora on the portage landing between Polly & Townline as we were heading out of the wilderness on Sunday morning.

Love seeing the Flying Moose in the wild. And always glad when mine is spotted by other members.

We will be on the Gunflint with our granddaughter the first week of July. Our Flying Moose sticker will be on our car-top carrier, as I don't think we'll be taking the canoe. The last couple years we have used the canoe that comes with the cabin and not had the extra work of taking our Bell Northwind, since we don't do any portaging anyway.

Keep an eye out for a silver Buick LaCrosse with carrier on top and if you see it, say "hi".

I saw two this morning. Sadly .. they were in my garage.

I really wanted to chat with you two when I saw you, but we had a lot of work to do and a big tree had to be cut down on a Koma campsite. We cut out the portage from Polly to Koma, right before you came through.

It was so buggy on our trip, I didn't even realize I had my headnet on until after you took the pic! The dragonflies were out in full force on our way out so thankfully I packed it away shortly after we met you at the portage. Looking forward to your trip report, hope you had good fishing on Malberg!

Glad you got that portage cleared for us ... it meant we had some energy left for the multiple portages through the beaver ponds to get to River Lake that day. The beavers apparently decided they didn't really want this large tree they dropped on the portage path. And those of us with short legs have a bit of trouble getting over it with anything on our backs! Hope to see you again this summer, I have several trips planned so continue to keep your eyes open for Flying Moose!

Saw a Moose Sticker on a Subaru in the EP6 (Slim Lake) parking lot last week. Didn't stick around long enough for the owner to materialize from the wilderness.

Just saw a flying moose on a green canoe, possibly royalex, on car roof drive past my shop window in Ely. I can only hope that they are heading on a really neat trip somewhere!

On a White Toyota RAV4? I have a green SR Q 16 that the previous owner de branded and I put a flying moose sticker on each side.

My daughter and I were in Ely today. After exiting from Wood Lake this morning we went to VNO for a shower and then had lunch at the Ely Steakhouse at 11:00. Left there around noon and we then made a couple stops at Brainstorm and Piragis before going to the Bear Center.

I did not see a flying moose in the bwca or in Ely other than my own.

That was it. I watch for canoes from my desk and only had a brief look, but I couldn't miss the moose! haha. I hope it was a great trip.

Treebear. Thank you. Yes, it was a great trip. Bugs weren’t nearly as bad as anticipated, Had a Walleye dinner and my daughter caught a 20 in smallie which is by far her PB. Most importantly I spent time in the wilderness with my daughter.

Canoe watching sounds like a great distraction at work ;)

Saw the Flying Moose on Takucmich 6-19-23, think it was egknuti, but no matter, as the Moose is on the front of the canoe! Of course, I had a flying moose on my canoe, but was parked on the campsite!

I was hoping you would stop by and say hi, we were packing up to leave - all we caught were some small SM, drought on the trout! I guess dragging a Mepps Cyclops as deep as I could get it was a bad strategy! We moved on toward Fish Stake Narrows that day and caught many nice (everything but trout)! I'm always looking for famous people ever since I saw Shug on Eagle Mt. You are the second most famous person I have seen in the BWCA! Happy Trails.

I wonder how I got so famous?!?
Sorry about not stopping by, but I had trout on my mind. It was the first time fishing Takucmich and I caught a trout in the first minute!

Just spent the week at Rockwood, but sadly I didn’t run into any bwca.com friends. I did see 3 stickers and all 3 were on Wednesday, Aug 2. In the morning I saw a silver SUV with the flying moose sticker on the back window drive from the bunkhouse down to the lodge. In the afternoon I saw one in Grand Marais at Holiday on one of 2 canoes on a trailer behind a maroon van. And in the evening back at Rockwood I saw a hexagon sticker on a canoe down by the kayaks. Someone from the bunkhouse had it staged for their early morning departure.

I hope they all had great trips.

Saw a sticker on a blue barrel on the lizz side of the caribou portage and got to meet Mr Max. Awesome conversation and was able to share our fishing experience for where they were heading. We hope you got onto the fish you were looking for Mr Max!

Got to see LindenTree on South Lake Thursday as he was making the rounds with his ranger partner and checking permits. Great to meet him IRL and chat for a bit before they headed off for latrine digging duties.

Great meeting you both! Glad you noticed the Flying Moose sticker. We didn’t spend much time fishing, but we passed along your intel to a couple other groups. Horseshoe was a zoo, so we made our way into Gaskin and had beautiful sunsets and relaxing days.

Always great to meet another Flying Mooser!

Dang, I always forget to get a picture. Any ways, it was great meeting you and sorry we could not partake in your Blueberry Rolls, but there is nothing more inviting than digging a new latrine hole.

I am kicking myself for not offering you to come over to our campsite that evening, I would have loved to chat with you more.

PS, We tried canoeing across West Pike around 1:30 that day after digging, me and my partner chickened out, due to the wind. We were empty except for our tool pack and getting tossed around, we opted for the long way around shore.

Great meeting you

May be seen enroute to Ely, MN, via Knoxville, Lexington, Cincinnati, Indianapolis, Bloomington, Rockford, Madison, Eau Claire, and Duluth. Flying Moose decals on both sides of the bow of a Northwind 17 and on the tailgate of the Subie. Flying Moose hat sometimes worn by the Subie driver. Should be in Ely the afternoon of August 26. Souris River? If it’s the Matt I know, he’s a great guy. He bought that canoe from me several years ago through this site and we still chat through text. I ended up buying our current canoe from another BWCA.com member who lived really close to him.

Saw one on a pretty red canoe on top of a vehicle at Poplar Haus earlier this month. We were just back from our week long trip over the 4th. So it was likely on the 5th. I confess I was tired and didn’t note the vehicle. I briefly pondered walking into the FULL restaurant and yelling ‘whose flying moose canoe is in the lot?” But the introvert in me just couldn’t do it.

I've been meaning to look for this thread! I live in Ely and have been seeing flying moose like crazy lately. In the past three weeks, there was one on a canoe on top of a blue pickup, one on a faded Souris River, and one on a really nice Northwind Solo.

There was also this gorgeous bright/light blue Mad River parked outside my office window all morning a couple of weeks back that, although it didn't have a sticker, was just such a pretty canoe!

Oh no - feels like we just missed you in between trips.

We were up 4th of July - long weekend after we came out of
BW. And we’re back up the first week of August for our yearly Rockwood cabin week with the whole family.

One of these days I sure hope we see you up there!

I met Twins87 and her husband at Rockwood on Friday night and then my daughter and I were on the same clean up crew as them for Gunflint Clean Up on Saturday. Great people!

I had my flying moose hat on and they were flying it on their canoe. This was the 3rd or 4th time that I’ve been at Rockwood at the same time as them, but the first time actually meeting them.

Glad you had your hat on. I need to wear my tee shirt more out in the wild.

See you in August for Family Cabin Week at Rockwood? Cocktail bar on the deck will be available at Cabin 12 on short notice most days. And our rowdy kid crew is always happy to meet new people.

Prairie Portage on June 5th. Three guys. One wearing a flying moose hat. I had to get my permit and when I came back you were gone.

Had a chat with a flying moose that was camped on the site in the narrows between Gabbro and Little Gabbro Monday June 1. It was taking us forever to paddle up the current in a headwind back towards our Bald Eagle campsite, and he was out on a rock casting for fish. Had an opportunity on our very slow paddle up the current to relay some fishing intel from our daytrip into Little Gabbro.

06/17/2026 12:45PM
That was me at the narrows between the Gabbro's! I appreciate the tip on the fishing, we got into some whitefish at the top of the rapids you had fished. The fishing really picked up once we got into the chain of lakes above Bald Eagle.
