I did a search and didn't find this posted yet, but apologies if it has been in the past. This is a short documentary made by Wendell Beckwith's grandson. Some interesting history, interviews, and old film footage. For those unfamiliar, Wendell Beckwith was often known as the hermit of Wabakimi. I remember seeing the cabin back in the early 80s not lang after he had passed away.

A number FOW members attended the premiere of this documentary in September 2022 in Thunder Bay ON at the local historical museum. Some of Beckwith’s descendants were in attendance. An interesting film worth viewing.

Thanks for posting this. A great story. I’m sure most of us who have spent time up north have wondered what it would be like to move off the grid.

Kiporby and Suncatcher launch tomorrow on Little Caribou and will be headed to Whitewater to see the Beckwith cabins. Also doing Cliff lake. 10 days, 120 miles.

Boys made it 10.5 miles today to Caribou. Little island camp by SW tip of Beaver island. They awoke at Mattice lake outfitters to a couple inches of snow this morning

Interesting way to start the trip, and Little Caribou is a sweet route choice to start (as long as no strong N wind). Thanks for this and any updates.

25 degrees this morning but sunny and calm. They hope for 15 miles with 5 portages today to get to Smoothrock

Only made it across Funger. Guess they had to saw and ax their way through the portages along Caribou River.

BTW....apologies to SHC for hijacking the thread. Hope to have some Beckwith cabin info in a couple days.

Rough day...15-20 mph winds with gusts to 30 out of NE. Once they made the corner on Smoothrock it was in their face. 15.5 miles to the NE end of Lonebreast Bay near Laurent. They were shooting for McKinley.

Following this, thanks for the updates

They off and running today....less wind. About 10 miles and 6 portages to Whitewater. Pretty sure they gonna layover a day there and snoop around the Beckwith cabins

Gonna switch this to its own thread....if following it will be listed as "kip and sunny search for Beckwith cabins"
