I’m considering investing in a Tensa Trekking Treez Tensa Trekking Treez . It’s rarely an issue finding suitable trees in the BWCA but it has been an issue when hammock camping in other parts of the country. It’s a pricey piece of insurance so I was wondering if any of you folks have tried one and what your experience has been. I saw Shug did a nice video, which I appreciate, just looking for more feedback. In addition to the BWCA my wife and I are spending a couple weeks in the Yosemite area this fall, spurring my interest in one of these stands. Thanks for any insight.

The Tensa Treez are a very nice option when needed and you are dead-set on not going to ground. I usually carry only one if I think I'll be needing it. Using the Tensa pole in one hand and my Black Diamond pole in the other really did not feel weird. After an hour on the trail...a pole is a pole. You can see me camping with one at about 9:50 in this video below.

I know this is an old thread, and the OP has probably already made their decision regarding Trekking Treez, but thought I would add my impressions in case any one else is considering them.

Full disclosure - I don’t own Trekking Treez but I do own two Tensa Solo.

I think, when you look at the cost, Trekking Treez are a very niche product. If you are logging a lot of backpacking miles in an area where hanging trees may be scarce, trying to keep your pack weight down, and already use trekking poles, then they may be right for you. One of the owners of Tensa Outdoors blogged a couple of years back about his PCT hike with Trekking Treez; this seems to me the perfect use case for them.

However, at nearly half the cost, I would recommend the Tensa Solo over the Treez, unless pack weight is a significant concern. I carried two of them on a Missouri River Breaks trip and had some great hangs at sites without sufficient trees. I carried one on a backpacking trip across Isle Royal so that all I needed to find was a single tree to hang from. This year I brought one on an overlanding trip and used it to hang off of a roof rack when trees were not available.

One final though. Both the Tensa Solo and Trekking Treez require significant anchoring to work. Because much of the ground in the BWCA is shallow soil over the top of solid rock, anchoring effectively could prove challenging unless you tie off to a solid root or very heavy rock.
