Wondering if anyone in here has experience with them. I have the Isle Royale pack and was debating getting the Palisade to add a little capacity for an upcoming month-long trip.

I have the Duluth pack version but they are identical so I will give you my thoughts.

I really liked the extra storage for gear this allows. I put my main pack on, then just clip on the front pack. There will be two things that you will want to be aware of. You will have limited sight in front of you when walking, not too big of a deal. Could be an issue on some portages. It does tend to bounce against your stomach as you walk. Again no biggie for me. I think the benefits of this pack outweigh these two issues. You will need to install the mount kit to your straps with this pack.

I have not used the Palisade Attachable Pack however, I often portage with a food pack attached to the front of the shoulder straps of my backpack. In addition to the weight bearing straps I use straps to prevent the front pack from swinging while walking. I have experienced no front visibility issues.

I have the palisade pack. I really like it. Very handy. Small enough to be not too obtrusive when used as a front pack. Big enough for a day trip pack, to throw a few sandwiches, and other things in that you might need for the day, while leaving the big pack at camp.

One more thing…I started using this pack as a food pack for shorter trips. But now it is my tackle box. It hold 3 of the 3700 sizes with plenty of room for more gear.

I was considering that obstructed view as a potential detractor. I'm glad to hear it's not a significant problem, but it is something to be aware of. I had not considered the belly bouncing yet. Good looking out!

I love the Palisade pack. I double portage, so my second load is this pack with my main pack. The 10-12 pounds on the front really seem to balance things out nicely. I pack my clothes and a few other items in it, in a dry bag, and I like that to keep everything separate and organized.An obstructed view is really not an issue as the straps, depending on where you position them, allow for simply moving it forward to look down and see your feet and any rocks or other obstacles. The little pocket on the side is very handy too and I use that to store quick reach items.

One of the best purchases I ever made. I usually use it as my thwart bag. Anything I want constant/quick access to. I have also gerry rigged the tump, some paracord, and the Palisade, into a messenger bag to take along on day hikes. Just big enough to use as the bag for all my clothes etc for a weekend campout with the scout troop.
