We will be entering Crab Lake in a couple of weeks. Just curious how the fishing and bug situation has been?

I'll be going in on Crab Lake on the 31st...so might see ya. What day are you starting and do you have some ideas on your route?

Bugs are going to be what they are going to be and could vary considerable from campsite to campsite. Also could change over the next 10 days depending on the weather.

It's a new area to me, but from everything I have heard there are plenty of smallies to be had.

We are going in on the 2nd of September. We are planning on paddling north of Crab Lake and find a campsite. If none are available we will probably come back to Crab. I have read several threads that say the fishing is good.

Well I may pass you on my way out on the 4th or 5th. I'll be in a prism solo with the flying moose proudly displayed. Have a great trip!

We camped on Cummings and Crab at the end of July. The bugs weren't that bad. It was windy while we were there so that helped to keep the bugs at bay. Good smallmouth action on Cummings. Mostly small fish, but enough bigger fish mixed in to keep it interesting. The action on Crab was kind of slow. It was very hot and sunny the afternoon we were on Crab.

I was on Cummings years ago. The bass fishing was honestly bonkers. As mentioned above, most of the fish were a little small, but not all. Every so often we would get a largemouth.

I don't mind mentioning this online because the grinder of a portage will keep most people out, but Buck Lake is fantastic for eater walleyes.
